How to Transform Your Skills Set Into a Product People Want

Earlier this year, Google released figures that show a 100% increase in searches for upskilling in 2020.

This comes as no surprise.

As the pandemic injects huge uncertainty into just about every area of our lives, people are becoming more aware of how upskilling can help them future-proof their careers and businesses.

There’s a huge opportunity here for trainers, consultants and tutors.

The value of bite-size learning

Sorcha Finucane is the founder of TrainedIn, a platform that helps people access the training that they’re looking for.

“There’s a lot being written about in the media about upskilling. Social media platforms regularly have threads on them encouraging people to #alwaysbelearning,” Sorcha says.

“One of the reasons why people are so motivated to upskill is because they can learn what they need to in a digestible and highly focused way,” explains Sorcha.

“As people navigate mass disruption in the workplace or business environment, adjust to working from home full-time, and look after children and loved ones, there’s a need to learn quickly.”

It’s also worth pointing out that there’s a momentum that comes with quickly upskilling and gaining the skills that are needed.

“If you’ve just set up a business and realise you need to figure out how to do paid social media advertising, embarking on a marketing degree is not necessarily what you need to do and you may not have the time right now. On the other hand, logging onto a webinar or signing up to a one day course on how to get your social media budget working for you will help you learn strategies and tactics that you can plug into your business straight away,” Sorcha points out.

Consultants, tutors, and trainers can package their skills

The skill sets consultants, tutors and trainers have are in big demand right now.

This is not just in your established field of expertise, e.g. digital marketing, business development, etc. It’s also in your processes and knowing how to impart knowledge.

These skills impart a great deal of reassurance to individuals who are looking to learn.

Joining a training platform denotes a degree of credibility for your training. It also makes it much easier for your ideal audience to find you and your courses/workshops/webinars.

It’s also worth keeping in mind that training platforms have a dedicated marketing budget of their own. Their own marketing strategy would be focused on building brand awareness and sending leads to the various training courses hosted on the platform.

Finally, packaging your skills and subject matter expertise into a bite-sized training course opens up another revenue stream for you. One that can provide scaling opportunities and the ability to create recurring income as long as you’re willing to run your course.
