It’s hard to believe that 90% of the digital content out there was created within the last two years, but this content has been created with help from, for, and of businesses. How can businesses leverage the power of the massive cache of digital content that has been generated with their devices, apps, websites, and more?
Last year 40% of Fortune 1000 companies were able to leverage big data to create measurable benefits for their companies. Some of the most popular ways to leverage big data include:
- Decreasing expenses through careful analysis
- Establishing a data-driven culture
- Finding new ways to innovate based on data
- Speeding up current efforts
- Launching new data-based products and services
- Adding revenue through careful examination of data
- Transforming business and future
But there are also some other ways for businesses to embrace the new data driven world. Twenty years ago it was believed that the Internet was going to destroy the music business. Today people rent music online, giving artists wider instant distribution without the costs of creating CDs, tapes, or vinyl albums. Newspapers have learned to embrace digital content, increasing circulation of digital editions by as much as 76% in some places in 2016 alone.
And of course we have the digital pioneers to thank for this massive influx of digital content over the last few years. Before Amazon was founded in 1995 eCommerce wasn’t even a blip on the radar. Before the first iPhone was released in 2007 there was no Instagram and YouTube was in its infancy. These and other digital breakthroughs paved the way for the eventual creation of mountains of user data that can be leveraged to create the next big digital breakthrough.
