2015 will be the year of the website makeover!

Companies will need to bring simplicity back to their websites. Believe me, I finally made the jump and did it with our current company site, Midwest Laboratories. I have been one of those mobile skeptics. I went so far as to launch other sites that were mobile friendly, using mobile plug-ins to see if it makes a difference. What I found surprised me.

First off- adding a plug-in to make a site mobile is simply wrong. It may look great, but performance suffers and often there can be a slight delay for people accessing your site. What I also found is that people like short, simple sites and traffic does increase, not only among mobile users but also desktop users.

If your site is on WordPress, you can find themes to take you to HTML 5 and get your site mobile in a hurry with not a lot of programming help.

Most important, it is a great way to make your site better overall. Here are some of the things that you can achieve by going mobile.

  • More concise set of menus (Better Clarity)
  • Emphasis on key concepts which stand out more
  • Listing phone information makes it easy for customers to call with one click
  • More one-click navigation
  • More movement to online forms instead of attachments
  • Flash not required, (Not Recommended)

People will naturally go to places where they can get information faster. In addition, if they cannot find it, they will see that they are encouraged to call or send an email to help find the information they need much faster.

Google Search Mobile

Have you seen what happens if people search your company name in a general search? Google will notify the client if your site is “Mobile Friendly”. This is a big deal and if for no other reason, you should consider getting listed by Google as a mobile site. I believe it will be a difference-maker in 2015.

Think about the online shopping you did this year. Were you more apt to purchase items from places where the information was presented in a fresh, clean way with simple processes for reading more about the products as well as the check-out process. Companies are going to have to really look at the user experience on their websites and determine if their sites are easy to navigate around or if they are simply too complex with too much, meaningless information.

It is a hard process to go through, but it can be quite rewarding.
