Facebook opened up a new lead-generating marketing channel when it added video functionality to its high-profile cover space.
The cover space on a Facebook business page is the first impression your visitors receive when they arrive on your page. A catchy company video can quickly grab their attention.
The question for you is, what do you want them to do next?
Do you want them to click over to your website? Like your business page? Buy a specific product? Sign up for an event?
Maybe you want the flexibility to change your video’s call-to-action every week or to change it with every new marketing or sales campaign.
If a flexible, easy-to-use design platform is what you are looking for, then read on to learn how to use PowerPoint to create Facebook Cover Videos for your business marketing.
Step-by-Step Guide for Creating Facebook Cover Videos with PowerPoint.
1. Define your audience.
Who are you trying to reach with your video? Marketing is never one-size-fits-all, so begin by clearly identifying who you want to reach and what action you want them to take. You’ll want to script the video in a voice that resonates with this audience and choose images that fit with the audience.
2. Write the video script.
The first step in creating a marketing video is to write the video script. The optimal length of a video depends on the video goal. A product demonstration might not take as long as a ‘how-to’ video. Since the idea here is to use the Facebook Cover space for a lead generation video, keep it short and consider developing a 30 to 45-second video. Remember, we want to grab their attention and quickly move them to an action that allows us to capture their information as a potential lead.
3. Find the perfect images to complement the script.
People are drawn to video because of the visual aspect. Videos allow us to learn or absorb information and be entertained at the same time. The images you use in your Powerpoint video should evoke emotion and resonate with the audience. Turn to websites like Pixabay.com for stunning, royalty-free images for your Powerpoint videos. Spice up the content even more with Canva.com – a free graphic design platform.
4. Build the video with PowerPoint.
The ideal cover space size (as of 2017) is 820 pixels wide by 312 pixels tall. PowerPoint allows us to modify the size of our slides to any dimension. Begin by defining the size of your slides. You can enter the dimensions in pixels and allow PowerPoint to resize for you.
Use a plain background, or a colored gradient, or use a different image for each slide’s background. The opportunities are endless!
Add the script/text to each slide and any related images. Then add your animation. PowerPoint allows you to add animation to each piece of content on the slide, so there is plenty of opportunity to be creative.
5. Add slide transitions.
In addition to adding animation to the content on each slide, consider the transition between each slide. Choose transitions that help the video and content flow for the audience. Remember to also set the slide duration to fit the amount of content on the slide. Ensure that your slide duration is long enough for the audience to read the text or listen to the script.
6. Add voice-over or music.
Add a soundtrack or voice-over, or both! Choose music that fits the style and storyline of your video. Edit the settings to play the music through the entire PowerPoint. Select whether you want the music to play loud or softly in the background with the voice-over. As an alternative, you can narrate the slides using PowerPoint’s narration feature. (Find royalty-free music from sites like bensound.com.)
7. Upload the video to the Facebook Cover space.
Save the PowerPoint file as a MPEG-4 video. Upload the video to the Facebook Cover space. Once the video has uploaded go into your page’s videos and add a description and relevant website links, or a call-to-action.
Tie your video to a pinned post or call-to-action button. Facebook videos can be used as a stand alone marketing tactic or a component of a marketing campaign.
