It’s not always easy to avoid common email mistakes. Companies are bound to make errors once in awhile. 1. Writing Emails with an Irrelevant or Useless Subject Line
This is one of the biggest email mistakes you can make, as it can result in your emails getting put in the trash folder before they’re even read. Creating a good subject line is almost more important than the content of the email. (Though, both should be done carefully.) The subject line is the first thing people see, and if it’s irrelevant or doesn’t appeal to the customer, it just won’t work. Make sure your subject lines are click-bait for customers. Also, try to keep it under 50 characters to help achieve this.
2. Leaving Out CTA Buttons and Links
What’s the point of even contacting your customers or leads if you’re going to leave out CTA buttons and links? One of the primary reasons companies even engage in email marketing in the first place is to get customers to make moves; via emails, of course.
Embed links in your emails at the appropriate times, and make it easy for people to sign up or buy a product right from the email. Also, no need to put sneaky links. You WANT your customer to click, so make sure whatever page you’re linking to on your site is obvious.
3. Making Emails Only Readable On a Computer
Seeing as we’re in 2016, there is absolutely no reason your company should be sending out emails that can’t be read on all platforms. Statistics show that way more than half of emails are opened on a cell phone or tablet first, and not on a computer.
Therefore, you should actually be designing your emails with the intention of it being read on a phone, first. While it should of course also be readable on a computer, don’t add anything that won’t be visible on a mobile device.This is one of those email mistakes that are quite common, so don’t forget about it.
4. Not Focusing on the Customer
Writing emails that really cater to the customer is not an easy task. However, companies sometimes have a tendency to spend the entire email talking about themselves, losing focus on the customer altogether.
Remember, yes, you want the customer to take action, but you also don’t want him or her to lose interest before doing so. Think about what it is you’re looking for your customer or lead to do and write based on that, without talking about how amazing your company is. (Even though we know it is!)
5. Getting Carried Away
This is one of those email mistakes that unlike the others on this list, is actually quite easy to avoid. Emails should be clear and concise. Less is more. The reader shouldn’t have to keep scrolling and scrolling to understand your point. Keep it short and simple. Make it easy to read. Most importantly, know your audience and what they like. If they’re readers, you can certainly make the email longer. If not, then you know what to do, or rather, what not to do.
