Why You’re Failing At Snapchat And How To Change It Around

Why You’re Failing at Snapchat and How to Change it Around

The reason you are failing at Snapchat is the same reason you are failing at everything else. That reason can be summed up with one word. Any guesses on what that word is? I will share that word with you later but before I do, I have a quote for you.

“How you do anything is how you do everything.”

Think about that quote for a minute. Right now, did you expect me to write that single word? To give you the answer so you can move on with your day? Are you looking for the information right now, unwilling to read every single word?

Before you go and make 15 reasons or justifications, you can either have reasons or you can have results. You don’t get both.
The reason you are failing at Snapchat or anything else is because of that quote.

“How you do anything… is how you do EVERYTHING.”

When you want to succeed as bad as you want to breathe you will be successful.

Snapchat isn’t easy. Do you want it bad? Do you want to wake up 3 hours early to work on your Snapchat game? Do you have a DAILY process for Snapchat?

Why is Gary Vaynerchuk successful? That is because Gary Vaynerchuk loves the process more than the destination.

Create a Snapchat Process

Truth be told, you already have a process and the results you have right now are from that process. Take a moment to audit yourself.

  • Do you plan your content weeks in advance?
  • Do you storyboard your Snapchat content?
  • Do you have a system for building a community?
  • Do you spend time every day building relationships with your community?
  • Do you reward your community?
  • Do you push yourself daily?

I am gonna keep it real, Snapchat is fucking hard. It isn’t easy to create extraordinary content every day. It isn’t easy to spend time every day watching content and engaging with others. It isn’t easy to keep going when you aren’t seeing results.

And trust me, this will happen.

Trust me I know, I have been there. I have given my all and came up short. This isn’t just Snapchat I am talking about, this is life in general. It hurts, it is super painful to be a loser. Let me be real though, this has been the greatest gift in my life. The pain of being a loser is the fuel that will push you.

In Snapchat as is in life, you must have a process. This will allow you to work on the only thing you can control: your mentality and your actions.

The process starts with “WHY?”

Why must you be successful in Snapchat? Will you give up everything to achieve this goal?

Be honest with yourself.

I am going to be extremely candid with you. The “why” for me, is extremely selfish. I could easily say I enjoy making people laugh, and that is why I do what I do. This would be true but not the real reason why.

My why stems from a massive amount of pain. I hate being scared, weak, and less than. This is something I have battled numerous times in my life.

Snapchat is a mechanism for me to become fearless, to crush obstacles I have never been able to do in the past, and if I make others laugh and enjoy life that is a massive bonus. It makes me feel good to spread joy, but my WHY is all about me?

If I don’t become fearless, crush obstacles and win in life, I will die without ever leaving a real mark on the world. I don’t want to go out, a giant waste of space.

This pain that I feel has become my fuel, more powerful than jet fuel.

What is your “WHY?” This is your very selfish reason of why you do what you do, and where does it come from? Get honest with yourself. Once you have your WHY—you can make real progress and help others.

Who do you want to help?

“If you try to be everything to everyone, you will end up being nothing to no one.”

To be successful in Snapchat you must build an audience.

You must find a group of people you want to speak to and invest in them with everything you have. Drill down and figure out exactly who your target demographic is. Think about this exercise as holding a magnifying glass in the sun. The narrower the beam you make, the more powerful the sun becomes.

Your buyer persona or customer avatar could look something like this:

Tom is a 26-year-old male who enjoys video games, movies, and all things pop culture. He is currently working at a corporate job while also pursuing his passion and getting his hustle on. Tom follows entrepreneurs and motivational speakers like Gary Vaynerchuk Tony Robbins, and Eric Thompson. Tom wants to be entertained and inspired while learning tips. Tom is a bit of an introvert and enjoys spending time with friends over being in front of crowds.

Build a Different Process of Activities if You Wand Different Results

You already have a process for Snapchat, even if it is “no process.” These are the daily habits that you have created. You must build a different process of activities to receive different results.

It is a set of daily activities that net you a positive result.

There are three main pillars to a successful Snapchat strategy.

  • Content
  • Community
  • Commitment

Content is King

Content is the first pillar of your Snapchat strategy. The content will help you attract your community and target demographic. An effective Snapchat content strategy follows these guidelines.

  • The content is original and native to Snapchat, not uploaded via a 3rd party app or using memories.
  • The content is geared towards your audience to entertain, educate, or inspire them.
  • The content must have a component of audience participation
  • The content should have an interactive component
  • The content schedule must be consistent. The same sort of content for every day of the week: #motivationmonday #techtuesday etc.
  • You must be willing to dump your content if you’re audience doesn’t enjoy it.

What are you going to create on a daily basis that others want to consume? What stories are you going to tell, what is the overall message to your content? One of the best pieces when it comes to creating content is document the journey.

Community is the Next Pillar of your Snapchat Process

Snapchat is nothing without a community of awesome supportive people. Before I delve in further into creating a community, I think we need to define something first. A community is a bunch of like-minded individuals who all come together around a central cause or idea.

“Your Snapchat community doesn’t care about you. They only care about what you can do for them.”

This isn’t to say that those same people don’t immensely care about you as a person, they absolutely do. The thing is, you represent an idea and bring value to them. As soon as you stop doing that, they will find someone else.

In Medieval times, the king and queen had the least amount of freedom. This is because they were in service to every single person in their kingdom.

I believe that to create a successful community in Snapchat, that you must be in service to your community. You must find a way to bring them value, and live up to their expectations every day. It isn’t about you.

Honestly, this has been one of the hardest lessons I have had to learn. Because I LOVE me, I think the world should revolve around me. I am amazing and I truly feel that not enough people have gotten to experience the joy I can bring to them, just by being me. Most people feel this way about themselves.

But it isn’t about me, and it isn’t about you. It is about your community and how you can help them.

When it comes to building a community, there is only one question you need to ask.

How can I bring them value and being in service to those people? Do this, even if there are only 10 people watching your snaps.

The Final Pillar to your Snapchat Process is Consistency

24/7/365 day in and day out. That is what consistency means, but can you do it?

“How you do anything is how you do everything.”
