Increase in ecommerce spending is attributed to growing base of digital buyers

The increase in ecommerce trading can be pegged on the ever increasing smartphone and internet penetration worldwide—there is an ever growing base of digital buyers.

Nearly 25% of online shoppers are occasion shoppers, which means that they do their shopping at least once a week. The majority of those who shop at least once per week are those aged between 30-39 years (37%) followed by the 18-29 age bracket (35%). The others are 40-49 and 50-64 age groups that represent 23% and 17% respectively.

When it comes to shopping at least once per month, 41% of those aged between 18-29 shop at least once per month followed by 50-64 (38%) and 30-39 (35%) and 40-49 (35%). The majority of those who shop once a year are those who are 65+ (58%) followed by the 50-64 age group (45%) and 40-49 (42%).
