Ads Using AI Technology On The Rise

Artificial intelligence (AI) has come to the ad industry, with the potential to transform advertising.

AI is being used to create concepts and visual effects in ads. Here are a few recent ads using AI technology that stand out.

The RNC’s ‘Beat Biden’ Ad

The Republican National Committee had its “Beat Biden” ad ready when President Joe Biden officially announced his re-election campaign. The ad was generated using fake photos of Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris.

When viewers freeze the action or take a closer look, they can detect telltale features such as the President and Vice President having too many teeth. Apart from these, it could pass for a standard political ad.

Kit Kat Generative AI Ad

In this ad, which uses generative AI (GAI), Kit Kat says: “AI made this ad so we could take a break.”

The 15-second spot from Wunderman Thompson Australia was created by feeding an AI model prompts like “write a Kit Kat ad the way Gen Z speaks.” The action is rudimentary and the figures do not look quite human.

Coca-Cola ‘Masterpiece’

In March, Coca-Cola introduced an ad featuring a mix of AI, live-action shots and digital effects. Created by the VFX team at Electric Theatre Collective and creative agency Blitzworks, the ad shows a man dozing off in a museum as paintings and sculpture come alive.

In the ad, the subject of a neo-cubist work reaches out to grab an Andy Warhol pop-art Coke bottle and throws it to a man on a ship from Turner’s “The Shipwreck.” Other artworks featured include Edvard Munch’s “The Scream,” van Gogh’s “Bedroom in Arles” and Vermeer’s “Girl With A Pearl Earring.”
