Blogging Inspiration: 12 ways

Erika Montgomery and Kristin Savage have recently listed twelve ways to find blogging inspiration. Here they are:

1. Start with a picture

A picture is worth a thousand words and you can find plenty of blogging inspiration from images alone. That is because visual stimulation is one of the most powerful ways of activating our brains. Browse through the archives of free stock photo sites and draw inspiration from there.

Choose a photo that speaks to you somehow, or makes you feel a certain way. Take note of your emotions while you are looking at the image. Now, describe the photo in one word. Using that word, try to come up with a similar title for a blog post that you think will also fit the image.

One example is the word ‘peaceful:’ you could write a blog post about how to achieve inner peace during the worst days of your life. Play with a few ideas in your head and make sure the title you end up with complements the image you chose.

2. Use blog title generators

Blog topic generators are a boundless source of topic ideas. Just remember to add your own creative twist to the title results whenever possible. You still need to make your content stand out as a blogger, so do not settle for generic titles when you have the chance to be unique.

3. Dig through your comment section

Go through your own blog, specifically your comment section. If you have a fairly active community of readers, you can find plenty of blogging inspiration there. It may be in the form of a question someone asked you or an angle they suggested that you have not explored yet. It helps to think like your readers to get a fresh perspective of things. If you have not established an active community yet, check out the comment section of popular sites.

4. Get active

Try getting outside and going for a walk. In order to get the creative juices flowing, you sometimes need to get the blood flowing first. Go out biking, taking a walk, or jogging in the park.

5. Take out your dictionary

Take out your dictionary and randomly flip through the pages if you own a physical copy. Next, close your eyes and just place your index finger anywhere on the page. Now open your eyes and check which word entry your finger was closest to. Using that word, try and come up with interesting titles that you think your readers will appreciate. An example would be: alpaca > “What an Alpaca Can Teach You About Living a Fulfilling Life.”

6. Read a book

Now it is time for a different book. One of the ways to become inspired to write is by reading someone else’s words. Books give you the opportunity to travel to a different time and think of a completely different scenario, one that might not even exist in real life. No matter your niche, books will always be a great way to get “unstuck” and find some blogging inspiration.

You might feel like you have no time to sit down and read an entire book. The good thing is that you can simply read a few pages. Each writer has a completely different way of writing and that can help you come up with some new styles or ideas in order to create your own posts, no matter the niche of your blog.

7. Join a writing group

There are plenty of writing groups all over the internet that can help you connect with people who are sharing your passion for writing. In these groups, you can find plenty of ideas for writing about new topics. Additionally, you can have the chance to see which topics are trending in your community and give them a try yourself.

8. Look for quotes

Another thing that many people in the writing community find inspirational are quotes from famous people. You can easily find many of them if you simply make a quick search online and you can even find particular ones on the topic you are interested in.

You can even base your new post on one of these quotes and write about how it inspired you.

9. Give freewriting a try

You might want to take a minute and give freewriting a try. What you have to do is take a piece of paper and start writing anything that comes to mind. You really do not even have to think. Just let the words flow and write down anything you think of.

At first, it might seem like your sentence flow does not make much sense. Through everything you will write, you will eventually write about something that will catch your attention. When that happens, you should focus on writing about that one thing; it can truly be the beginning of your new post.

10. Get some sleep

If you are having a hard time figuring out your next post, you might want to take some time off your busy day and take a quick nap. After some sleep, you will be able to start thinking with a clear mind. If you saw any dreams, you can always write them down in a dream journal and see if there is any way for you to use them in one of your future posts.

11. Organize your workspace

Something that can really help some people find blogging inspiration and concentrate on their work better is organizing the space they are working in. If you work from home and you have your own room where you work in, you could use the space to your advantage and decorate it in order to help you feel more comfortable and creative.

You can set up some small candles, print your favorite quotes and frame them and even put some flowers around you to help add some more colors into your everyday life. Inspiration can come from the little things in life and a small change can help you get inspired and see things from a different perspective.

12. Create a poll

A great way to find blogging inspiration is by asking your followers what they wish to read next. Add a poll on your website or social media accounts. In most cases, the posts you create are always written in order to please your target audience. By asking them what they wish to read from you, you are making them participate in the creation process and you are giving them a lot of value.

Knowing what your followers wish to read will help you write with more ease as you will know that they will enjoy the outcome. Sometimes, taking the pressure off of creating can help inspire you and help you feel a lot more comfortable to create your new post.
