question mark in the sky

Here at Elementary Digital, we often get asked questions about WordPress SEO. To help with this, we’ve created this post which deals with these FAQs to provide you with comprehensive and helpful answers!

WordPress is the most popular content management system around. All sorts of websites use it, from blogs and news sites, to company websites and even e-commerce stores choosing it for its adaptability and the huge range of options. Users love it for its easy-to-use dashboard and its capability. It’s perfect for everyone, whether a novice with no understanding of coding and design through to experts. However, just because of this doesn’t mean that there aren’t things that people can be doing to make the CMS even more effective when it comes to SEO.

Here are some of the questions that we get asked about WordPress SEO which should help to dispel some myths and misinformation about the platform and SEO.

Is WordPress SEO optimised from the day you install it?

Unfortunately for everyone, there isn’t an out-of-the-box fully search engine optimised platform yet. WordPress does have advantages and certainly it is easier to get good SEO results with the platform but there’s still the need to do some work before you can get to the top of Google.

There are a lot of people who talk about their ‘search engine optimised’ CMS as it can be a great selling point for any system. But frankly, there isn’t one out there yet that can actually manage to get your business to the top for Google without you putting in the work too. There’s a big difference between search engine friendly and search engine optimised and unscrupulous vendors looking to sell their CMS will play on the fact that many business owners are more concerned with running their companies and not with the latest technicalities of SEO to understand that difference.

However, WordPress does offer a good point to start from, which is why we specialise in it.

WordPress SEO plugins remove the need for SEO experts, right?

SEO isn’t a turnkey service. It takes time, effort and constant updating to get your site to rank well and to keep it at the top.

There is so much to SEO, including keywords, organic search, link building, creating content that meets the market’s need and more. You can’t just download a plugin and be done. SEO should be carried out by an expert who can keep an eye out for any errors which could cost you big in the long run.

Plugins do make it easier, and we use them, but they aren’t the be all and end all of WordPress SEO.

Which is the best SEO plugin for my site?

If you are looking at SEO plugins, there are two main contenders, All In One SEO Pack and WordPress SEO by Yoast.

You’ll need to think about a number of factors when it comes to which one is best for you.

Compatibility – Will the plugin work with everything on my site? Will it continue to work in the future?

Support – Is there technical support for this plugin from the developers or the community? Have a look at forums to see if there’s everything you need.

Usage – How popular is the plugin? Lots of users vote with their clicks for which one is good.

Lifespan – Are the developers working on the plugin to keep up to date with the latest SEO developments?

That’s part one of our WordPress SEO FAQs. Keep your eyes out for part two!
