1.)   Minimalistic is the key:

The header can sometimes be tricky to design simply because it needs to be attractive enough to catch the attention of the readers but at the same time, being too gaudy can distract the readers and eventually lead to a drop in your readers even if your content is commendable. Ideally, a header design must have minimum intrusion from other elements and must look clean, simple yet enticing. Clarity plays a massive role in designing the header of any website. The meaning and idea behind a website should be communicated simply by glancing at the header. It should instil a sense of trust in the readers that the website will offer them the desired help.

2.)   Convey something meaningful:

A header is not a showpiece that brings readers to the website; it is also an element that gives them a gist of what the website is all about. A brief, concise introduction about the company or the owner of the website can go a long way in ensuring that the readers understand what they can expect from the website. Ideally, most of the communication in the header should be done by means of visual representation. The use of text should be kept to a minimum.

3.)   Make the header more interactive:

One of the easiest ways to ensure that your header and eventually your website is a hit is by making it interactive and encouraging the readers to participate in it. Parallax scrolling is the most popular example that has an incredible impact on the website visitors if executed well. Adding in unexpected elements into your header can create a surprise element which is likely to garner more support for your website. You can create fast easy websites by simply adding a little animated effect in your header that gets activated on scrolling.

4.)   Professional looking:

Whether you wish to create a fun or a serious website header, it should at all times exude professionalism. A healthy combination between fun and professional may be difficult to achieve but is not impossible. Balancing out the elements is likely to work in your favor. Attention to detail should be your main focus and designing the header elements in a way that do not look amateurish is a must. Crisp, clean lines and the use of bold colors will do the trick.

5.)   Bring out your website’s personality through the header:

Being warm and personable will instantly win you brownie points. This must reflect in the header. It should look inviting so as to not drive your visitors away. Using interactive elements or including a friendly character as part of your header image will make your readers feel comfortable and will show an interest in your website.
