The Rise Of Mobile Marketing [Infographic]

March 5, 2015

It should come as no surprise when we tell you that mobile shopping saw a significant increase in 2014. So much that a new holiday was created called Cyber Monday. Now yes, Cyber Monday has been around for a while, but it wasn’t until the last few years that is started standing toe to toe with Black Friday.

That’s because smartphones have made it so simple and easy to do your shopping and make purchases. With applications likes PayPal and Apple Pay, shoppers can now save their information on their smartphones and make a purchase with the push of a button. How convenient, right? So how much is mobile shopping growing? Let’s take a look!

In 2010, there were 35.9 million mobile shoppers. That’s a lot of shoppers!! But that’s nothing compared to the 130 million mobile shoppers expected in 2015.

With the younger generations (ages 25-44) especially, 58 percent of those shoppers who use mobile devices prefer to look up information on their mobile devices while shopping, rather than asking an employee. So that means shoppers aren’t only making more purchases from their cell phone, but they prefer to do their research from their mobile device.

2014 was also the first time that mobile shopping officially trumped desktop shopping, with 51 percent of visits to retailers’ websites via mobile devices.

But doesn’t it seem like with the easy accessibility of a smartphone and the fact that it’s on you all the time that mobile shopping should easily trump desktop shopping? So what’s holding it back from being a heavy favorite? The answer is security.

In a 2014 study, 61 percent of smartphone shoppers said they were concerned about privacy while 58 percent had concerns over security issues while using their devices to shop.

It’s quite obvious what the next step is with the mobile shopping experience, and that’s to up the ante on security. If tech gurus can create new, secure means of shopping from user’s mobile devices and people buy into it, the sky is really the limit with mobile shopping. Take a look at the infographic below for some interesting numbers on mobile marketing.
