Manage Your Time…Phooey!

July 21, 2015

How many planners, seminars, CD’s, audio books, software systems, and workshops have you attended and yet you still can’t seem to “Manage your Time?”

Don’t answer, let’s just assume its high enough that you’re willing to explore other options.

Does any of this sound familiar:

  • “I will do that tomorrow.”
  • “I don’t have time.”
  • “If only there where more hours in the day.”
  • “I will get up early and then get it all done tomorrow.”
  • “I over slept…again.”
  • “There was a traffic jam and I ran out of time.”
  • “I am good at multi-tasking, I have plenty of time.”
  • “If you wait until the last-minute it only takes a minute.”

What happens when you make statements like this is, you actually believe that you can make up for the lost time somewhere “in the future.”

Time to get honest

You see most people, “manage” other resources like, energy, money, and assets, better than time. The problem with this is that, time is the only resource that cannot be regained, rebuilt, or reused. None of us have a “time storage account.” We either use it or lose it.

So, what’s my point?

Everyone in the entire world regardless of education, race, gender, social economic status, religion, and physical make-up, all have 24 hours in a day.

Let’s do the math:

24 x 7 = 168 hours per week

24 x 30 = 720 hours per month

24 x 352 = 8760 hours per year

I know you’re thinking wow, I really never thought about my time in this capacity before. I gotta be honest with you, very few people do.

What are my thoughts?

Mange your time…Phooey! You can’t really “manage time.” The truth is time passes no matter what you do. As a result, you can’t “manage it.”

So, what’s the answer?

Become time conscious. Which means that you are consciously aware of your time. You see, in order to take full advantage of your time, you gotta take control and get off auto pilot; become fully aware and engaged in your day. This is accomplished when you begin to see your time in terms of hours instead of days, weeks or years.

Yes, at first, this seems like a lot to take on, but once you become time conscious, you’ll never take your time for granted, waste it, or misuse it again…

So, what’s next?

I am so glad you asked!

The 504 Challenge

  1. Take the next 504 hours (21 days), and instead of thinking of the days or weeks, take it one hour at a time.
  2. Yes, that’s it!
