Social media is all about pumping out fresh content to keep your fans up to date and your company at the forefront of their minds. The more and more content you write, the more likely you are to get tired of social media. If it feels like your brand’s social media is just a voice shouting into a black void it’s a big sign that you (and your content) are getting tired.

Avoid burning out your brand by recognizing the following signs. If you can correct them you’ll be able to publish exciting, eye-catching content that your followers will be eager to engage with and share.

1. You’re Losing Engagement

This is a tell-tale sign that your followers are no longer interested in your content. It’s fairly easy to track the analytics of your brand’s page. This allows you to view which type of posts are performing well versus which ones are not. If you’re just starting your social campaign try experimenting with different types of posts at different times of the day to see how your followers respond. Different strategies will work for different brands.

2. You’re Promoting Your Brand Too Often

If every one of your social posts is about your company you’re probably coming off too salesy. If your brand’s content looks too much like an ad, your followers may scroll right past you in the news feed. Be sure to follow the 80/20 rule which indicates that only 20% of your content should be about your brand while the other 80% is interesting and specific to your followers.

3. You’re on Every Social Platform Imaginable

Okay, so you’re on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Pinterest, Google+, Tumblr and YouTube. Now what? Many brands make the mistake of spreading themselves too thin across various social media platforms. Pick one or a few and master them. Your industry will dictate which social media platform will work best for your company. A B2B brand really doesn’t have much to gain on platforms like Pinterest and Facebook. Learn where your target audience resides and bring the content to them.

4. You’ve Had the Same Profile & Cover Photo Since You Can Remember

We all have that Facebook friend who still uses their high school photo despite being a couple decades graduated. Don’t be that guy! Use your brand’s image or logo as a profile picture and make sure it’s something that will catch the eye and possibly merit a click. Cover photos are also a very under-utilized tool. They’re basically digital billboards (and they’re free!). Frequently changing your cover photo allows you to promote upcoming events, redirect your followers to your site or even showcase new products.

Yes, constantly creating new content can become a bit redundant but avoiding some of the traps above will keep you and your brand from hitting a metaphorical wall. If you can create and share content that you, as a person, are truly interested in then it’s likely your audience will like it as well. Keep things fresh by experimenting with your posts, distributing shareable content, sticking to one or a few platforms and changing your images when things start to get stale. Remember that and you can conquer your social media.
