The New Year is upon us and change is inevitable. Most of us have a list of New Year’s resolutions just waiting to be achieved. For many, finding a job or changing jobs is right there up on the list. If you have not been in the market for a while, there are some new trends you have to be aware of. Here are the resume trends 2017 worth mentioning.

Short and to the point

The latest resume format is very difference from the past one. There used to be a time where a resume was about 5 pages long. This is no longer the case. If you can summaries and highlight your achievements, you are right on track. List only the relevant and latest information. There is no need to specify which junior school you attended.

Bullets and Numbering

Using a point system is much more acceptable than writing a paragraph of information. It’s easier for the recruiter to skim through and make and see if you are the best candidate. Our society is moving at a very fast pace and only a handful of people will read a paragraph about how well you did in soccer. Instead, just list your achievements using bullets and numbers.

Fonts

I remember back in the day when I use to see my resume as a chance to get creative. This is a big no in the latest resume trends. Make sure your resume displays professionalism, which is always in black, easy to read fonts.

Objective statement is out

This part of the resume has died and it is no longer a requirement. Do not waste your time by adding this on your resume. Recruiters are interested in actual facts. Instead, only list how you would be a benefit to the company through your knowledge and experience. The company already has an objective statement and does not need yours.

Resume writing services

Many of us do not have the time to figure out all the new trends for writing a resume. Resume writing help is available and affordable these days. You can save yourself a lot of frustration by letting a professional do it for you. These people are usually up to date with the latest trends and thus assuring you of not being rejected based on an outdated resume.

Online resumes

There are platforms online; you can use to create an online resume. One of the popular platforms is LinkedIn. Many employers are using sites like LinkedIn to recruit new employees. Make sure you keep it up to date and only include relevant information. Also, using the correct keywords can help you come up in their search and get noticed. I have received many job offers through sites like LinkedIn so you should definitely give it a try.

It is important to keep up with changing times. Your resume content should be lean and clean. Keep it to the point and make sure the recruiter does not get bored half way through. Make sure your resume is specific to the job you are applying for so don’t send a generic one for every position you apply for.
